Having fun with Griselbrand

By: Yul Garces

I started playing Magic the gathering trading card game way back when onslaught was released.
My choice of color back then was black(Join me in the dark side..its good!) because I am more into sadistic monsters, demons, vampires and so on.

The first deck I had is zombies! not because they're stupid but building a zombie deck before was very cheap and you don't really have to think of anything else except dropping guys like these into the battlefield
then just chop your way to your opponent's life points.

One more thing that intrigued me the most about these little bastards is, you can actually end the game as fast as turn 2! well, not just by themselves though. That is when this guy right here with anger management comes into play --->

See what I mean? cool stuff eh?.

Moving on, I was so into the game until the dawn of the artifacts came in, which is the Mirrodin block

to which I am not very pleased. So I put down my deck and sold all of my cards and sworn never to return in playing Magic the gathering ever again...not!

Then Avacyn came into the picture --->

I felt that itch between my fingers, bad thing is I scratched it so hard that I finally got into the game again.
Started playing again not because of the block itself but because of this guy --- >

Sweet isn't it? Griselbrand is the main reason why I went back in playing MTG.
I checked out the netdecks available for this fearsome demon and tweaked it a wee bit myself(I don't want net decking really I don't but I needed a little update about the new cards/new rules of the game).

So here it is, my very own "GRISELBRANDED" combo deck:

4 griselbrand
4 simian spirit guide

4 thoughtseize
4 goryos vengeance
2 soul spike

4 faithless looting
4 izzet charm
3 fury of the horde
2 lightning axe

3 chancellor of the tangle
2 nourishing shoal
2 volcanic fallout

2 abrupt decay
1 maelstrom pulse

3 serum visions

4 city of brass
4 gemstone mine
4 blackcleave cliffs
1 boseiju
1 stomping ground
1 steam vents
1 island

Then deck is all about punishing, locking and ending the game as fast as possible(as fast as turn 1-2 at the least.)

You got to take griselbrand to the graveyard school as fast as you can then reanimate it with Goryo's Vengeace on the same turn griselbrand was put into the graveyard then attack your opponent so hard his head will spin.

Now this deck didn't came out cheap but it's freaking awesome!
Once you get griselbrand to attack, use his ability to draw cards then attack again on the same turn using Fury of the horde.
You will never die when using griselbrand's ability because of his lifelink.
Attack for 7, gain 7 life then pay 7 life to draw 7 cards! I am sure you get the combo.

Not only that, I added a few cards to protect my life points from being chipped away by those little nasty creatures like abrupt decay, izzet charm(nice utility card) and volcanic fallout.
Then for multiple copies we have maelstrom pulse to get those pesky tokens out of the way.

I tested this deck with modern's most used decks like:

Jund
Bant
Affinity and the fearsome Splinter twin combo., It didn't dissapoint and the results were promising.

Playing magic is really really addicting and fun! I had to meet a lot of cool people and good friends while playing this trading card game.

Hobbies aren't cheap that is true but consider this hobby as a getaway from everything.. I consider this hobby as a reward for myself and the good thing about it is, the wife approves.

Now stay calm and tap those lands! let's shuffle up and play!
